Kantha is a form of stitch originating from India and was originally used to stitch layers of muslin or sari cloth together to make thicker clothing and blankets. Contemporary Kantha is relaxing and enjoyable. We will use simple stitches: running stitch, backstitch and occasionally some chain stitch to highlight foreground images and use the direction of stitches to form a dynamic background full of colour and movement.
Choose from various natural forms as motifs (birds, trees, dragonflies etc) and experiement with muslins and cottons to stitch on. The small piece you make will look great in a simple frame.
Suitable for all abilities.
