I have been a member of the guild since 1982 and was President from 2005 to 2008. I have been quilting since 1974. My work now features contemporary art textile and quilt techniques such as indigo dyeing, Shibori, vintage Japanese fabrics, digitally manipulated and printed designs and fabric and free machine quilting.
I am a textile artist, teacher, author and quilt judge. I have taught City & Guilds Patchwork & Quilting since 1994. I run classes in East London through my "Micro Centre" and I am currently working to provide online learning for Certificate & Diploma. I am also a tutor at the world renowned West Dean College, near Chichester and for Missenden School of Creative Arts. I am in demand as a freelance tutor in the UK and abroad,
I hold several awards, The Lifetime Achievement Award from The Festival of Quilts (Upper Street Events), The Jewel Pearce Patterson Scholarship for International Quilt Teachers (USA), The Amy Emms MBE award for services to quilt making, Honorary membership of QGBI and two Medals for Excellence from City & Guilds - 1993 as a learner for Patchwork & Quilting Part 1 and 2018 as a City & Guilds lecturer.
I am studying for a MA Textiles at the University of the Creative Arts (UCA) at Farnham, Surrey. I am due to finish in August 2020 with my major project work in an exhibition in September providing the Coronavirus situation allows.
Through my interest in Japanese textiles I have become a tour leader on specialist Textile and Quilt holidays for Arena Travel, in particular to Japan although I also lead tours elsewhere in the world too. You can read all about the Japan trips on my blog. For more details please see on my new website http://www.janicegunner.co.uk
