Wendy Lowes

My main interest is in using origami techniques in fabric.
When using a plain fabric, such as calico, the shadows become part of the design, like bas-relief sculpture. An example of this is shown in the picture: "Waterlilies" (Folded calico and scrim with some hand embroidery.)
When using colour, I try to replicate origami paper by using a fabric with a different colour on each side or by bonding two colours together. The squares of fabric are intricately folded and then stitched together as 3D patchwork.
I have also worked with transparent fabrics which, when held up against the light, show the folded layers in different tones.
For many years , I have given lectures and workshops on these techniques.
